Highlights since high school
A life shaped by words, teaching, and family.
I studied in Germany for a year before graduating from U.C. Davis with a double major in English and German. From there, I went to graduate school at Iowa State University. I earned my M.A. in English there before moving to Denver.
I taught English at community college in Denver, then went to the University of Denver, where I earned my Ph.D. in English (literature) with a minor in rhetoric and composition. It was in Denver I met my husband, Mike. We were married in the University of Denver chapel in 1998.
We then moved (briefly) back to California where our first child was born; then moved to Arizona, where our second child was born. I taught English at Arizona State University for ten years; when we moved back to Denver in 2015, I taught English and writing at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Since 2022, I have been working as a freelance writer. Two of my books are Painting in the Margins: Women Artists and Evangelical Ideology in 19th Century Novels (2010) and A Story Nearly Told: Histories of a Wyoming Homestead (2020).
